Today we explored leading effective teaching and learning and discussed what some of the barriers may be. we thought about Daniel Goleman's leadership styles and pin pointed what kind of leader we identified as and if this is the approach we thought we took. Interestingly, my leadership style came out to be visionary and Affiliative. This type of leader approaches people and takes on a team based approach to leadership, whilst also being decisive. I feel this is a true reflection of my leadership style. I now will consider this when planning and preparing for my learning challenge and reflect on how this style has impacted on the  decisions I have made along the way.
After the second session on ' Closing the Gap' it became clearer what I was going to choose for my Leadership challenge. My focus is going to be new intake physical development in particular focusing on boys. 'New intake' meaning those children that are new to our school that have not previously attended our Nursery setting. This for me, is a GAP as new intake are usually poorer than children that have attended our school nursery.

First session at the BHS developing leaders 17/18 thoughts .... Path making? OR  Path following? This really stuck with me from the 1st session and I refer to this quote when making decisions in my day to day job role. The first session highlighted the difference between management and leadership and how the two correspond and go hand in hand. It made me think that neither one can work without the other! Kolb Learning style inventory I  found the learning style assessment useful and found that I am mostly a Diverging learner but also an extremely balanced leaner.  I learn from concrete & reflective experiences as well as observing others. I work well in a group or team.  This description of my learning style seemed accurate and true of my nature.
